Amy Adams declared herself “optimistic” ahead of Tuesday night’s election at the L.A. premiere for her science-fiction drama “Arrival.”
Paramount Pictures rolled out an alien-grey carpet in Westwood, and stars including Jeremy Renner, Michael Stuhlbarg, Tzi Ma and producer Shawn Levy made their way to the Regency Theater for the screening on Sunday night.
Adams explained that the message of “Arrival,” related to how her expert linguist character Louise Banks tries to communicate with aliens who land on earth, feels even more apposite in today’s world.
“I think that we’re missing face-to-face contact and communication, and the less we are face-to-face, the more we are able to say things we wouldn’t to someone’s face. It’s important to have that human connection,” Adams told Variety.
Adams also added her two cents to the election chatter, which will conclude in the next couple of days. “I’m optimistic,” Adams stated. Her co-stars appeared less calm.
“Ahead of Tuesday night I feel cautious, hopeful but also cautious,” Stuhlbarg said.
“I’m not nervous, I trust the American people to do the right thing. Once they vote, let the chips fall where they may and we lie in the bed we’ve made, that’s all. I mean really, if we choose one way or the other then we need to accept the consequences of our choice,” Ma added.
“Arrival” is set to land in theaters on Nov. 11.
