The Asian American and Pacific Islander community has faced a rise of racism and violence since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Hate crimes against Asian Americans have risen 150% in major cities in the past year, along with nearly 3,800 reports of hate incidents across the country since 2020.
CBS News spoke with actors Olivia Munn, Daniel Dae Kim and Jennifer Cheon Garcia, filmmaker Eddie Huang, chef Melissa King, TV personality Cheryl Burke, Stop AAPI Hate co-founder Russell Jeung, RISE founder and CEO Amanda Nguyen to discuss the attacks on the Asian community and how Hollywood plays a role in perpetuating harmful stereotypes.

The cast of The CW’s Kung Fu is asking fans of the network to speak out against anti-Asian racism in the wake of several violent attacks against AAPI people in recent weeks.

The Kung Fu cast and producing team recently gathered for their very first virtual panel at this year’s WonderCon to discuss their upcoming CW drama, the significance of Asian representation in mainstream storytelling and what fans can expect when they tune in to the series in less than two weeks. A modern-day reimagining of the 1970s series, Kung Fu follows a young Chinese American woman, Nicky Shen (Liang), who goes on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to San Francisco years later, she finds her hometown is overrun with crime and corruption and her own parents are at the mercy of the powerful Triad. [Variety] AT&T, WarnerMedia Pledge $7 Million to #StopAsianHate With Campaign Featuring Lisa Ling, Jon M. Chu, Tzi Ma (EXCLUSIVE)
AT&T and WarnerMedia have launched a multi-platform campaign to create awareness in support of #StopAsianHate, unveiling the campaign as part of “A Day of Action,” a national day of mourning and remembrance of communities affected by social injustice. Additionally, AT&T and WarnerMedia have announced a $7 million pledge to aid in the fight for social justice.
“Hate and discrimination have no place in our society. I am saddened by the recent incidents and my heart goes out to the AAPI community,” Corey Anthony, AT&T senior vice president and chief diversity and development officer, said while announcing the commitment. “AT&T has a responsibility to address equality issues that impact our employees and the communities we serve.
